Although I am heterosexual, I am not so insipid as to think, for a minute, that the same people who come after LGBT+ people will hesitate to come after me, and other nreurodivergent humans, once their first target has been eliminated. Besides, my bisexual nephew, who changed my own views on sexual orientation, deserves to have a full life-as do many others I've met, in the last fifty years.
I look around and wonder, "Who will be the next target?" Human beings seem, to me, to be historically and perhaps genetically tribal. Whoever does not live like me, doesn't look like me, worships (or not) differently from me seems to be an almost automatic candidate for my rejection, my fear and, ultimately, my hate. Political systems which understand this inclination can and do exploit the hate. Why is it always so? We, as a species, need what my sister called "a mental tidy". Now would be an excellent time to start.
Another excellent piece- thank you!
