What a beautiful, riveting rendition of an energizing anthem! I see almost weekly acts of defiance by my fellow Americans at ballot boxes across the country. The frenzied gerrymandering will not work here, any more than it did in Hungary. On Tuesday, voters in a conservative state, West Virginia, elected two Democrats and a moderate Republican to the state's Court system. Other states will face primaries and special elections, this month and next. I will not be surprised in the least, should similar results transpire.

Thank you, Gary! As you say, there is plenty of inspiration and defiance all over. I’m rooting with every bone in my body for the future of democracy in the US.

Yes we will fight back.

Thank you so much for opening video Péter. Fills my heart and inspires this American. Appreciate all your writing and democracy is a living thing... like a garden democracy that must always be tended...always. It dies like a whimper but also change can come from years of work on tiptoe.

This is so beautiful

The ending stayed with me. Attention as resistance, showing up as a form of democratic life – that’s exactly what I keep circling in my own writing too. Thank you for your work.

Péter, I am so moved by your writing. As an American I am learning how to look at what’s happening in my country with open eyes, and at the same time, with hope, from reading your work. Thank you.

Péter, you're an extraordinary writer, able to capture history as it occurs...with perspective and humanity...brutally objective and deeply personal.

One attribute I've noted among Americans is a deep denial of the depths of the rot we are facing...almost bordering on magical thinking about the midterms and 2028.

At the dawn of Orban's rule, were Hungarians also in denial as to the magnitude of the losses they faced, or is this a uniquely American trait?

Yes he is an excellent writer.

I love people and Hungary has always been a fascinating place to me. I was smiling with the people in the video & crying slightly too, I am a happy crier, I cry when I see others helping people or happy in acquiring freedom, as in the video. You are very inspiring & I love to read your postings. My grand father told me, "A man that does not admit his mistakes, is not a good person". So along with being a great writer, you obviously are a good person. Also it is good to read more, I was always an avid reader, but the internet has so many good videos, I still read but not as much.

Thank you Peter. That song is beautiful. I'm still humming the song a week later. I enjoy reading your articles. Please don't stop writing. I found you on Substack searching for news about the results of the Hungarian election. I care about Hungary and Hungarians because I have relatives there. I am overjoyed and grateful the Hungarian people have taken their country back. Democracy cannot be taken for granted. We are fighting for our democracy in America. I keep telling people if the Hungarians can do it we can too. This November, we Americans need to vote in numbers too big to rig. 🙏❤️🤍💙🫶❤️🤍💚
